Portrait of Allison Wigen

I am a sociologist whose interdisciplinary research bridges cultural studies, labor studies, environmental studies, and American Studies. My research is rooted in qualitative methods, especially ethnography, comparative-historical methods, and narrative methods. In my dissertation and book project, Art at Work: Labor and Cultural Production in the Wake of Change, I investigate how working people use cultural production to narrate, interpret, and give meaning to labor amid social and ecological upheaval. As an educator, I practice critical, problem-posing, and project-based pedagogies in the classroom.
